Hitofude – Fazit

Was also nun tun? Was soll ich sagen?

I had to frog my Hitofude cardigan once because the amount of stitches were absolutely wrong. Somehow I understood the main concept behind this pattern and I tried it again – it seemed very easy. The pattern was easy and I finished the cardigan very quickly.

Unfortunately it turned out to be too large. I discussed that issue with my flatmates on ravelry and got a lot of helpful information. It turned out that I took the wrong measurement and knitted the cardigan in the wrong size. (Plus: I didn’t swatch but I promise to change that for the next garment.)

But what could I do now? Due to the wool it wasn’t possible to frog it again so I decided to try to machine-wash it and hoped that it would felt a bit. I chose a program esp. for wool but nothing spectacular happened. The Hitofude was still the same size. So I tried it with another program. What can I say? It fits now perfectly! Well… if you are a one year old toddler.

I decided not to be too much annoyed about that and I promise that I learned from this whole thing. Nevertheless is it a wonderful pattern and I am going to try it again in the near future – and the cardigan is going to fit then!

Klinker/ Clinker

We had fantastic weather during the time we helped building the house. But after we got our roof truss weather changed. It was rainy and stormy and we had even some thunderstorms here with heavy rain. We asked our contractor several times to put the foil on the roof but it felt like eternity until they covered the roof. Unfortunately did they ‘forget’ to cover some of the roof.

It didn’t seem very bad first… Our cellar was flooded and we cleaned it up. (Trust me it wasn’t a nice work as we only had two shovels a big bowl and a submersible pump to get rid of all the water.) We were finished when the heavy rain started.  All the rain that fell on our roof flowed down the roof in our 2nd floor from there downstairs to the 1st floor and then into the cellar. Only thing we could do was watch and being vexed. We tried to seal up everything but it was hopeless. After it stopped raining we had more water in the cellar than before we started cleaning up…

Good thing is: The roof is fully covered now and we managed it yesterday to clean the cellar (again). And: The clinker is nearly done. I’m afraid that I forgot to take some pictures of the finished walls but instead find at least a photo of one finished wall here:

Dachstuhl/ roof truss

We were running of of time to finish the exterior walls before the roof truss was delivered and built. Unfortunately the communication with the building contractor wasn’t that good since we weren’t at the site all the time.  That lead to more stress and a partner who had to work too many days until midnight and later to get things done while still having a day job too. Coordination of several appointments like the topping out ceremony went wrong so we invited our guests to the wrong date. As we also celebrated our birthdays (which were some weeks ago) so we invited appr. 40 guests. After discussing this several times we decided to skip the ceremony and just celebrate with friends, family and colleagues. I’m sure that everyone who was involved wasn’t that happy about that solution but the party was great and I think that was worth it. (We came home after 3 a.m. 😀 )

Good thing was: The roof truss was delivered and the carpenters did a good job.
