NaKniSweMo – Aktueller Stand/ Current Status

For me October and November are a synonym for stress and rush since several years. I have deadlines to meet at the office and a ton of other things has to be resolved, handled and to invoiced before the holiday season starts (and in my job it starts by the beginning of December – unofficially).
Despite that I made progress on my Cardigan. – Well until the other day. There are only two things (besides finishing of course) to do: Knit and cast of the edges and knit the sleeves. Sounds easy? I’d agree if it wouldn’t be for the edging to annoy me.
The instructions say to knit an ICord as the edging but that won’t work with my cardigan. The whole thing rolls up like no good. I tried to change the tension and the needle size, I knitted more garter stitch rows as given in the pattern.
Then I thought about a simple rolled edge. Well, it does what it should – but still way more than it should.
So yesterday I had enough. I put everything aside and started a Beret to calm down and after I notices that I’ll need a hat by next week…

NaKniSweMo KAL

NaKniSweMo – Seltsame Abkürzung, oder?
Ausgeschrieben bedeutet das Ganze: “National Knit a Sweater Month” (also: Nationaler Strick-dir-einen-Pulli-Monat).

NaKniSweMo – What a strange abbreviation, isn’t it?
It means ‘National Knit a Sweater Month’ but it all started as ‘NaNoWriMo’ (National Novel Writing Month). The aim is to write a novel about at least 50,000 words. Writers take the opportunity to overcome a writer’s block or they just want to share their progress. Some participate to overcome their lack of motivation to start/ end a story.
So basically it’s a kind of KAL (Knit-along) or CAL (Crochet-along): A group of people are working on the same thing, like the same pattern, patterns from a specific designer or working with the same kind of yarn.
So with that in mind the ‘NaKniSweMo’ was born: All participants knit a sweater. One has time to do that from 1st to 30th November. – But: ‘Sweater’ is very broadly defined: You are basically allowed to knit any kind of garment that is worn on the torso. So if you knit a sweater, a vest or a cardigan – it doesn’t really matter. It’s just important that the garment has at least 50,000 stitches.

And why do I write about that? Well, of course because I decided to participate this year! I sneaked about it the last years but never got the guts to start.
From today’s perspective I really don’t know why. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? I could end up with half a sweater which I’d finish in December (or January…) instead. That’d still be half a sweater more than I had before I tried.
So I did some stashdiving and searched for a matching pattern the other day. On 1st of November I cast on the first stitches.

I picked the pattern ‘Hoodie Shawl Cardigan‘ and I’m using leftovers from Holst Supersoft. We had some bank holidays in the beginning of November so I made some progress and I’m happy about it.

You can find my project on ravelry.
